完整生平
  1. 1950s–1970s

    Becomes an active printmaker

While living in France she works in the ateliers of Georges Visat and Pierre Chave and makes work for limited-edition artists’ books by such poets as Alain Bosquet, René Crevel, Lena Leclerq and André Pieyre de Mandiargues.

  2. 1976

    Death of Max Ernst

Max Ernst dies, having suffered a stroke a year earlier; the marriage had lasted 30 years. Tanning stays in France for some time, concentrating anew on her painting.

  3. 1978

    Returns to New York

After her husband’s death she moves to New York (other accounts say she had settled her home and studio there by 1980) and enters an energetic creative period, producing paintings, drawings, collages and prints.
