Mr Patch is shown in relief in white wax on black glass facing to the left. He wears a curled wig tied at the back of his neck and is dressed in a frock coat and stock. This wax might be a portrait of either Thomas Patch the printer (d.1782) or Richard Patch, the famous criminal, who was executed in about 1860.
This portrait relief is the work of Eley George Mountstephen an Irish sculptor and wax-modeller.
