Hand cut stencil on cream, ribbed paper, with handwritten caption reading 'Miss O'Neale', possibly the Irish actress, Elizabeth O'Neill (ca.1791-1872), ca.1830.
Elizabeth O'Neill (1791-1872) was born into a theatrical family. She made her London debut as Juliet in 1814 and went on to achieve widespread admiration and praise in parts such as Ellen in the adaptation of Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lakeand Bianca in the tragedy Fazio by Henry Hart Milman (1791-1868). Her theatrical career was cut short however, as she retired from the stage following her marriage to the Irish MP William Wrixon-Becher (1780-1850) in 1819.
