Maria houdt het Christuskind op de arm. Putti kronen het Kind met een krans van bloemen. Voor hen knielen heiligen in aanbidding. In het gezelschap bevinden zich onder andere Maria Magdalena (met zalfpot), de H. Joris (in harnas) en de H. Hiëronymus, die een bijbel onder zijn arm houdt. De knielende man in bisschopsgewaad en de figuren achter hem zijn niet met zekerheid te identificeren.

On December 3, 1616, in Antwerp, he was apprenticed to the painter and still-life master Osias Beert.

Training in Engraving with Lucas Vorsterman
He worked under the renowned engraver Lucas Vorsterman, from whom he learned the art of engraving.

Chief Engraver of Rubens's Workshop
After Vorsterman's quarrel with Rubens in 1624, Pontius took his place and for several years was the workshop's principal engraver, reproducing the master's drawings and paintings.

From 1624 to 1631 Pontius lived in Rubens's house.

Work After Van Dyck, Jordaens, and Others Following Rubens's Death
After Rubens's death in 1640 he produced numerous reproductive engravings after originals by Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, Seghers, de Crayer, Titian, and Velázquez; in all he executed 42 plates after Rubens.
