The post at the ICA gives him time to deepen his research on Duchamp, which results in a typographic version of Duchamp’s Green Box, the original notes for the design and construction of “The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors, Even,” also known as “The Large Glass.”

His first wife Terry is killed in a car accident.

First trip to the US: Duchamp in Pasadena
Partly to recover from his loss, he travels to the United States for the first time for a retrospective of Marcel Duchamp’s work at the Pasadena Art Museum, where he meets other leading pop artists and is befriended by Duchamp.
