Om målningen

In 1866 Auguste Renoir painted Woman Standing by a Tree, a narrow oil sketch now at Washington’s National Gallery of Art. The woman looks down, raising one hand to her chest. Her pale dress and orange-edged wrap stand against dark foliage, with blue strokes running through the skirt’s shadows. Around the figure and along the right edge, areas of bare canvas remain exposed.
