Om verket
Rembrandt etched Man in an Arbor in 1642, portraying a seated, bearded man beneath a broad hat. The National Gallery of Art, Washington, received this impression in 1943. Lightly marked foliage and an architectural detail appear behind the sitter's heavy clothing. The print came from Rosenwald's collection, where it had been exhibited in Philadelphia in 1930. It is not currently on view.

Birth of His Son Titus
In 1641 Rembrandt and Saskia's son Titus was born — the only one of their four children to survive infancy.

Death of Saskia
Saskia died in 1642, probably of tuberculosis, a year after Titus's birth. Rembrandt's drawings of her on her sickbed are among his most deeply felt works.
