Painting

The artist has depicted a view of the Hindu temple of the goddess Mahalasa, in New Mardol, in the central Goanese district of Panda. The temple dates from the 16th or 17th century, and incorporates features of Muslim architecture as well as the Portuguese baroque. Comparison with a photograph of the temple reveals that Thorani has rendered faithfully all the component elements if slightly over-extending the height. However in order to suggest the humid and sometimes rainy climate of Goa, the artist has smudged all his lines thus personalizing the architectural drawing.
