Мысль о создании двух картин о парижской уличной жизни, объединенных традиционной идеей смены времен дня, подготовлена всем предшествующим творчеством Боннара. Свою роль сыграло здесь и расположение его мастерской на улице Дуэ, выходящей к площади Клиши, где соединяются бульвары Клиши и Батиньоль. Этот район уже тогда отличался оживленностью, и, постоянно возвращаясь к мотивам движения на улице во второй половине 1890-х и в 1900-х, Боннар не оставлял мысли о многочастной композиции, способной вместить впечатлений больше, чем отдельная картина. В 1896 и в 1900 гг. появляются два триптиха, изображающие площадь Клиши. Первый из них называется «Возрасты жизни». Идея сопоставления возрастов как ступеней жизни в какой-то мере сохранится и в морозовской сюите, где в каждой картине присутствуют персонажи трех возрастов.

Отправными точками, приведшими к «Вечеру в Париже», стали «Батиньоль, или лошадь фиакра» (1895, Национальная галерея, Вашингтон) и созданные тогда же литографии из серии «Несколько аспектов парижской жизни». И в литографиях, и в «Вечере в Париже» отчетливо проявились японские влияния. Фризовая композиция напоминает о приемах Кийонаги, а вечерняя уличная сцена - о цветной ксилографии Хиросигэ «Вечерняя сцена в Сарувакачо» из «Ста знаменитых видов Эдо» (1856). Автор аннотации: А.Г.     Visiting Manguin in Saint-Tropez

    In June 1909 Bonnard stayed with the painter Manguin at the Villa Demière in Saint-Tropez; View of Saint-Tropez, or The Alley, painted there, later formed the basis of the central panel of the Morozov triptych.

  2. January 1910

    Morozov's Commission for the Mediterranean Triptych

    In January 1910 Ivan Morozov, through the Bernheim-Jeune gallery, commissioned from Bonnard a large triptych for the staircase of his Moscow mansion on Prechistenka Street.

  3. March 1910

    Solo Exhibition at Bernheim-Jeune

    At Bonnard's solo exhibition at the Bernheim-Jeune gallery in March 1910, Train and Barges was shown for the first time, attracting the attention of Guillaume Apollinaire.

  4. September 1910

    Trip to Saint-Tropez to Visit Paul Simon

    In September 1910 Bonnard stayed in Saint-Tropez at the invitation of Paul Simon and wrote to his mother that the south had struck him like a scene from the Thousand and One Nights; he returned there in March 1911.
