Замечательный сепийный лист «У ручья» по техническому совершенству принадлежит к шедеврам мастера. Выбранный художником прозрачный материал соответствует пейзажному мотиву с его сквозящей и трепещущей в лучах света листвой. Здесь так же, как и в других станковых работах, Шишкин выстраивает картинный вид. В нем с безупречной правдивостью, но без иллюзорности, изображен пронизанный светом уголок леса с прозрачным ручьем на первом плане.

Death of His Second Wife, Olga Lagoda
He lost his second wife, the painter Olga Lagoda-Shishkina; he went through an emotionally difficult period and for some time could not work, until the urge to create brought him back to life.

Birth of His Daughter Ksenia
Shishkin and his second wife, the landscape painter Olga Lagoda, had a daughter, Ksenia; after her mother's death she was raised by Olga's sister Victoria Lagoda.

"Forest Distances" at the 12th Peredvizhniki Exhibition
The panoramic painting "Forest Distances" was first shown at the 12th exhibition of the Peredvizhniki; critics called it all but unrivaled at the exhibition.
