Begins painting storefronts and reflections
Around 1967 he begins to paint storefronts and buildings with glass windows together with their reflections, working from several color photographs of one view that capture the evanescence of reflections changing with the light and the time of day. From 1967 he develops his own subject: the modern big city of the late twentieth century.

One of the founders of photorealism
He is regarded as one of the founders of the international photorealist movement of the late 1960s, alongside John Baeder, Chuck Close, Robert Cottingham, Audrey Flack, Ralph Goings and Duane Hanson, and as one of the leading photorealists of the first generation.

One-man show at the Allan Stone Gallery
His one-man show is held at the Allan Stone Gallery. His works have also been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Associate of the National Academy of Design
The same year he is elected an Associate member of the National Academy of Design.
