His co-workers at the museum include the artists Robert Ryman, Dan Flavin, Gene Beery and Robert Mangold, while the future critic Lucy Lippard works as a page in the library. LeWitt also becomes friends with Hanne Darboven, Eva Hesse and Robert Smithson.

A collection of nearly nine thousand works
From the early 1960s he and his wife Carol gather nearly 9,000 works of art through purchases, trades with artists and dealers, and gifts; the collection includes work by about 750 artists, among them Dan Flavin, Robert Ryman, Hanne Darboven, Eva Hesse, Donald Judd, On Kawara, Carl Andre, Dan Graham, Hans Haacke and Gerhard Richter.
