This one-sided circular model for a commemorative medal depicts Sir Henry J. Wood, founder-conductor of the Promenade Concerts which are held each year in the Royal Albert Hall. The portrait of Sir Henry Wood is an early model for a commemorative medal. The Museum holds a further model for the portrait (A.14-2005) and a copy of the medal itself in silver (A.15-2005).
The model is made by Paul Vincze (1907-1994), a Hungarian-born medallist who took British citizenship in 1948 and lived and worked in London from then until his death. Vincze received wide and varied commissions and found a position in the mainstream of British medallic art.
