About the sculpture

This terracotta relief representing the Virgin and Child was made in the middle of the 16th century, probably in Germany. The Virgin is seated suckling the Child. In front of her is a ledge on which is a dish of fruit. Behind her is a building under an arch of which is a man with an ox and an ass.
