Returns to Naples from Florence
Returns to Naples, though he continues to work often for Florentine clients. His religious works of the mid-1680s, for Santa Maria in Campitelli in Rome (1685) and “Virgin of the Rosary” (1686, Capodimonte), show the influence of Cortona and Bernini in their illusionism, theatrical lighting, figure types and drapery.

Moves to Spain at the invitation of Charles II
At the invitation of King Charles II he goes to Spain and stays for ten years, working at court; his pupils Aniello Rossi and Matteo Pacelli assist him. He is popular at court, and the king grants him the title of “caballero”.
