This pencil sketch of Henry Irving by the artist A.M.Freeman formed part of a set of sketches of the actor collected in a scrapbook.

This image shows Henry Irving in the role of Robert Landry in The Dead Heart which was performed at the Lyceum in 1889. This play was rewritten from Walter Phillips's drama by Walter Herries Pollock and was inspired by the events of the French Revolution and was in fact staged one hundred years after the 1789 Revolution took place.
