Na vida de Paul Cézanne

A vida inteira
  1. 15 April – 15 May 1874

    First Impressionist Exhibition

He took part in the first group exhibition of the future Impressionists in the studio of the photographer Nadar; his "A Modern Olympia" provoked critical outrage. "The House of the Hanged Man" was bought by Count Doria for 300 francs — one of the few paintings sold.

  2. 1877

Sixteen Works at the Third Impressionist Exhibition

He presented 16 works at the third Impressionist exhibition, once again met with harsh criticism. It was the last time he exhibited with the Impressionists.

  3. March 1886

Zola's Novel "The Masterpiece" and the Crisis of a Friendship

Zola published "The Masterpiece" (L'Œuvre), a novel about a failed painter, Claude Lantier, in whom Cézanne recognized himself. It was long believed that the friendship ended forever, but a rediscovered letter of 1887 shows that relations continued for some time.

  4. 1886

Death of His Father and Inheritance

After the death of Louis-Auguste, Cézanne, together with his mother and sisters, inherited his fortune, including the Jas de Bouffan; the artist's financial situation eased considerably ("he left me an income of 25,000 francs").

  5. 1888–1890 · Residência

    quai d'Anjou

  6. 1895

    First Solo Exhibition at Vollard's

Ambroise Vollard opened Cézanne's first solo exhibition at his Paris gallery, showing 50 of the roughly 150 works submitted. The exhibition brought his art to a wide public; prices for his works rose a hundredfold.
