Погрудный портрет князя Иллариона Илларионовича Васильчикова в черном военном мундире со стоячим воротником, расшитым золотым галуном с аксельбантом. На груди Георгиевский крест на двухцветной ленте. Строгое лицо, усы и бакенбарды с проседью, глаза карие. Высокий открытый лоб обрамляют каштановые волосы, зачесанные на косой пробор. Фон нейтральный зеленовато-коричневый.

Founding of the Artists' Artel
The artists who had left the Academy, led by Kramskoi, formed the "Saint Petersburg Artel of Artists" — Russia's first professional association independent of the Academy; Kramskoi was elected its head.

Minor Gold Medal of the Academy
The Academy of Arts awarded Kramskoi the minor gold medal for his painting "Moses Drawing Water from the Rock."

Marriage to Sofia Prokhorova
On 16 October 1863 Kramskoi married Sofia Nikolaevna Prokhorova; ten days later their son Nikolai was born.
9 November 1863
The "Revolt of the Fourteen"
Kramskoi led the refusal of fourteen Academy graduates to compete on the set theme "The Feast in Valhalla": on 9 November 1863, speaking for his comrades, he asked the council to release them from participation in the competition.

Teaching at the Drawing School
From 1863 to 1868 Kramskoi taught at the Drawing School of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists.
1865
Painting the Dome of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour
In 1865 Markov invited Kramskoi to assist in painting the dome of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow; owing to Markov's illness, Kramskoi executed the entire main dome painting together with Bogdan Wenig and Nikolai Koshelev.
