O dziele
Otto Bacher was Frank Duveneck’s pupil, one of the “Duveneck boys” who traveled with their teacher from their art school in Munich to Venice. Bacher met Whistler in Venice in 1880, and in 1908 he chronicled this encounter in his book With Whistler in Venice. Bacher was responsible for bringing to Venice the press that Whistler used to proof his Venice plates. Lustheim and View in Venice highlight Whistler’s direct and immediate influence on Bacher’s art. Bacher returned to America in 1888 and was one of the artists who helped popularize etching in this country. He exhibited many of his Venice-themed prints at exhibitions sponsored by the New York Etching Club.
