Blue and white exchange places in Forms, the ninth plate of Henri Matisse’s Jazz, published in 1947. This gouache stencil print is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington. A white curved silhouette stands within blue on the left; a related blue shape occupies white space on the right. Both fit on a sheet 42 by 65 centimetres.
