O obrazie
A tree grows from the sleeping Jesse in The Tree of Jesse, painted around 1500 and now in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Its branches carry Israel's kings, tracing Christ's ancestry through a line traditionally including David and Solomon. David can be recognized by his harp. At the summit, Mary sits enthroned with Jesus on her knees. The painting turns a family line into a branching image, beginning with Jesse below and ending with mother and child above. On view in room 0.1.
Opis muzeum
Pictured here symbolically is Christ’s family tree. It grows out of the sleeping figure of Jesse, forefather of a line of kings that included, according to tradition, Salomon, David and Jesus. The branches are filled with the kings of Israel, among them King David with his harp. At top, the Virgin is enthroned with the Christ Child on her lap.
