O obrazie
Bibémus, painted by Paul Cézanne in 1894, is in New York’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. He found this landscape in abandoned quarries east of Aix-en-Provence, where vegetation had grown over terrain partly shaped by human labor. Rocks and trees stand beneath a clouded sky. Patches of complementary color alternately flatten the surface and suggest depth. The oil canvas, 71 by 90 centimetres, belonged to Justin K. Thannhauser.
