Retrospectives of Miró were held in New York and London (1972), Saint-Paul-de-Vence (1973) and Paris (1974) — a sign of the international acclaim that had grown steadily over half a century.

“Les pénalités de l'enfer”: a book from Desnos's manuscript
At the urging of Desnos's widow Miró illustrated the poet's manuscript — his first work with prose: 25 lithographs. It is one of more than 250 illustrated books by the artist, known as livres d'artiste.
