Over de sculptuur

This relief on linen has been stiffened with gesso and painted. The Virgin Mary is represented in half-length in full-face holding the Child in front of her. Her right hand is raised in benediction, and his left passes under an ord which is held in place by the Virgin's right hand. The two figures are contained at the base by a crescent moon. Three winged cherub heads are disposed at the top and bottom of the relief and four more appear to the left and right of the Virgin. The flesh parts are painted naturalistically and the Virgin wears a blue cloak covered with gold stars, with a yellow lining, over a red dress, and the Child is dressed in red. The background is painted roughly to represent clouds.
