Visiting Maillol's first solo exhibition in 1902, Auguste Rodin was delighted by his Leda (1902) — a recognition of the path he had chosen and a kind of blessing from the famous master.

First private and state commissions
From 1905 Maillol began receiving private and state commissions and, gaining confidence, started entering competitions for monuments.
