Already the master of his own workshop, he was sentenced to six months in prison and a fine for an affair with a married woman, the wife of the sailor Francesco Cortese. Before that he had studied with the Vivarini in Venice and is believed to have worked in Francesco Squarcione’s workshop in Padua.
