About the sculpture

This is a model of the tomb of William de Valance, Earl of Pembroke in Westminster Abbey. The recumbent, fully armed with a lion at his feet and a shield enamelled with the Valence arms at his side, rests on an oblong sarcophagus of oak with diaper of the English and Vaence arms painted on top. The whole rests on a plinth with moulded cornice and base, carved with shields of arms and gothic rosettes.
