    Nearly twenty years without a darkroom of his own

    From 1933 to 1952 Strand has no darkroom of his own and uses other people’s.

    Has his books printed in Leipzig

    Because of a printing process reportedly available only in East Germany at the time, Strand insists that his books be printed in Leipzig, even if their Communist provenance means they are initially banned on the American market.

    “La France de Profil” is published

    The photobook “La France de Profil”, second of the six book “portraits” of place, becomes especially well known.

    “Un Paese”, on Luzzara and the Po Valley, is published

    A book of photographs of Luzzara and the Po River Valley in Italy (Einaudi), the third of the six book “portraits” of place.
