In het leven van Le Corbusier

Het hele leven
  1. 1945–1946

Reconstruction plans for Saint-Dié and La Rochelle

After the Liberation Le Corbusier was invited to plan the rebuilding of towns: his schemes for Saint-Dié and La Rochelle were not carried out, but in them the “unité d'habitation”, prototype of the future Marseille block, first appeared.

  2. January – June 1947

Designing the UN headquarters in New York

One of a group of invited architects from many countries, Oscar Niemeyer among them, Le Corbusier worked on the UN complex on the East River. He could not see it through and was not officially credited, though the overall layout and the 50-storey Secretariat largely reflect his proposals.

  3. 1948

    Publishes The Modulor

Having begun work on a theory of harmony and proportion in 1945, Le Corbusier published The Modulor in Paris: a system of measures based on “golden sections” tied to the dimensions of the human body. He travelled the world to win over industrialists and builders; its figure of a man with a raised arm became his unofficial emblem.
