    Moves to Paris

    After the CoBrA group breaks up he settles in Paris, grows close to the Surrealist circle and meets Alberto Giacometti, Bram van Velde and Victor Brauner.

    First solo exhibition

    Alechinsky’s first solo show is held at a Paris gallery.

  3. 1955

    Solo exhibition in Brussels

    A solo show of Alechinsky’s work is held at the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels.

  4. 1960

    Venice Biennale

    Alechinsky shows a solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale, where he represents Belgium.

  5. 1965

    Breton invites him to the Surrealist exhibition

    André Breton invites Alechinsky to take part in the 10th International Exhibition of Surrealist Art.

  6. 1965

    Switches to acrylics and a comic-strip manner

    Under Wallace Ting’s influence he begins working in acrylics in a technique close to comics.
