Over het werk
Painting depicting The Savoy Theatre from the Embankment, showing the main carriage entrance. Drawn in pencil and watercolour by Charles John Phipps in 1881.
Richard D'Oyly Carte approached Phipps to design his theatre, originally to be called The Beaufort, in June 1880; it was completed 16 months later.
