Intussen, in het leven van Vito Acconci

Het hele leven
  1. 1960s

Marriage to the artist Rosemary Mayer

In the 1960s Acconci is married to the artist Rosemary Mayer.

  2. late 1960s

From poetry to performance and video

Acconci transforms himself from a poet into a performance and video artist, with his own body as the subject of his photography, film, video and performance. Influenced by Situationism, he stages performances in the street or for small audiences that explore the body and public space.

  3. late 1960s

The poetry magazine “0 TO 9”

Acconci begins his career as a poet, editing and self-publishing the poetry magazine “0 TO 9” with Bernadette Mayer: produced on a mimeograph machine in 100 to 350 copies per issue, it mixes contributions by poets and artists.

  4. 1971

The first critical article about him, in Arts Magazine

Cindy Nemser becomes the first art critic to write about Acconci, for Arts Magazine; her later interview with him becomes the magazine's cover piece.
