Views of Cold Spring at the American Academy
Of the five landscapes shown in the window of William Colman's bookshop, two views of Cold Spring were bought by A. Seton, who lent them to the 1826 annual exhibition of the American Academy of the Fine Arts.

After 1827 Cole kept a studio at the Cedar Grove farm in the town of Catskill, where he painted a large part of his work.

“Chocorua's Curse” in a gift-book annual
Between 1826 and 1842 five of Cole's works were engraved for the gift-book annuals The Token and Atlantic Souvenir; the critic John Neal called “Chocorua's Curse”, in the 1830 volume, 'beautifully contrived'.
