Over het werk
This wax crayon drawing shows a young girl's experience of attending a street party celebration for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in 1977.
Rachel New lived in East Ham, London in the 1970s and she drew this picture whilst at Altmore Infant school. Rachel's colourful depiction of bunting, flags and lots of people celebrating on the street show the Jubilee celebrations from a child's point of view and offers a snapshot of London childhood in 1977 as well as revealing how one London neighbourhood and family celebrated this royal occasion.
