На переднем плане изображена лесная поляна, поросшая высокой травой. В траве видны красные и белые цветы. Передняя часть поляны находится в тени. На втором плане, в центре - три дерева, у самого основания сросшиеся стволами. У крайнего слева ствол вверху разветвляется. Среднее дерево представляет собой засохший ствол. Справа от этой группы видно еще одно дерево. Зеленые кроны этих деревьев изображены общими массами. На заднем плане - лес, выдержанный в сероватой гамме. На сером фоне за деревьями второго плана - желтое пятно - те места, где лес освещен солнцем. Вверху, в просветах крон видно небо, почти полностью затянутое светлыми облаками.
