Intussen, in het leven van Franz Marc

Het hele leven
  1. 1899–1900

Art instead of theology, and a year in the army

Two years later Marc enrols in the arts programme of Munich's Ludwig Maximilian University, but is first required to serve a year in the military.

  2. 1900–1903

The Academy of Fine Arts: Hackl and Diez

In 1900 Marc begins his studies at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, where his teachers include Gabriel von Hackl and Wilhelm von Diez; he studies there until 1903.

  3. 1900s

The affair with Annette von Eckhardt

In his twenties Marc is caught up in several stormy relationships, among them an affair lasting many years with Annette von Eckhardt, a married antique dealer nine years his senior.

  4. 1903

    The first trip to Paris

In 1903 Marc makes the first of two trips to France; in Paris he visits the museums and copies many paintings, a traditional way for artists to learn their craft.

  5. 1903–1907

    In Parisian circles: Sarah Bernhardt

On his Paris trips Marc frequents artistic circles and meets numerous artists as well as the actress Sarah Bernhardt; the source does not say on which of the two trips.
