Over het werk

Maria zit geknield op een bidstoel. Ze kijkt om naar de engel Gabriël die achter haar staat. Naast de bidstoel een lelie in een vaas. In de wolken de Heilige Geest in de vorm van een duif en vele engeltjes.

    Having returned from Italy to the Netherlands, Cort left again for Venice shortly after 1567, and from there traveled to Bologna and Rome, where he engraved after the paintings of the great masters of the time.

    Cort's connection with Cock and Titian is illustrated by a letter of 1567 from Dominicus Lampsonius of Liège addressed to Titian, in which Cock is named as Cort's teacher.
