Intussen, in het leven van Titian

Het hele leven
  1. 1530

The death of his wife Cecilia

In August 1530 Titian's wife Cecilia died. He remarried, but little information is known about his second wife; she was possibly the mother of his daughter Lavinia.

  2. 6 augustus 1530

    Daughter born: Lavinia Vecellio

  3. 1530–1539

The young Tintoretto in Titian's workshop

According to Tom Nichols, the very young Tintoretto, brought to Titian's studio by his father, probably entered the workshop between 1530 and 1539, but only for a very brief time. According to Ridolfi, after being cast out of the studio he resolved to become a painter by studying the canvases of Titian and the reliefs of Michelangelo, and wrote on his wall the motto “Michelangelo's design and Titian's colour”.

  4. 1531

A new house in Biri Grande

In 1531 Titian moved his two sons and infant daughter to a new house on the northern edge of Venice, in Biri Grande, with a workshop separated from the rest of the house, a private garden where he could air-dry and hide his paintings, and direct access to the lagoon for shipping them to patrons. His sister Orsa came from Pieve di Cadore to help manage the household and his business affairs.

  5. 1533

Bologna: Count Palatine and Knight of the Golden Spur

In 1533, after painting a portrait of Emperor Charles V in Bologna, Titian was made a Count Palatine and Knight of the Golden Spur; his children were reportedly also made nobles of the Empire. He was court painter to Charles V from 1533 and received from him a heavy gold chain.

  6. 1534

    His father dies

    Titian's father died in 1534.
