Intussen, in het leven van André Derain

Het hele leven
  1. 1914–1919

Mobilization for the First World War

In 1914 he was mobilized and, until his demobilization in 1919, had almost no time for painting; he served as an ordinary soldier.

  2. 1919

Designs for Diaghilev's Ballet La Boutique fantasque

At the invitation of Sergei Diaghilev he created designs for the sets and costumes of the ballet La Boutique fantasque, choreographed by Léonide Massine; its success brought new theatrical commissions.

  3. 1928

    Carnegie Prize and International Exhibitions

He received the Carnegie Prize for Still Life with Game and began exhibiting widely abroad — in London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, New York, and Cincinnati. The 1920s marked the peak of his success.

  4. 1930s

    Move to Chambourcy

In the 1930s he sold all his property in Paris and moved to Chambourcy, keeping only a studio in the capital.
