The woman at the right is seated on the ground, holding her drapery about her, her right breast bare; slightly behind her at the left stands another female figure, turned left; carrying a spray of flowers in her left hand.

Etchings for the Recueil Jullienne after Watteau
For the first two volumes of the Recueil Jullienne, which reproduced the works of Watteau, Boucher executed about a hundred etchings, including the frontispiece with Watteau's self-portrait; this work became a source of inspiration for him.

He became director of the Royal Academy and succeeded Charles Van Loo as First Painter to King Louis XV — the summit of his official career.
