First survey of his drawings at the Stedelijk
The first survey exhibition of his drawings is held at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and then travels to the Kunsthalle Tübingen in 1978. By other accounts, the Amsterdam show, “Tekeningen/Drawings 1971–1977”, dates from 1978.

Marries Clara Weyergraf
He marries the art historian Clara Weyergraf, with whom he made “Steelmill”; the marriage lasts until his death in 2024.

Solo exhibition at the Centre Pompidou
A solo exhibition of his work is held at the Centre Pompidou, Musée National d'Art Moderne, in Paris. In 1983 his sculpture “Clara-Clara” is temporarily installed at the Tuileries, by the Place de la Concorde.
