    Ando wins the Pritzker Prize, the highest distinction in architecture, and donates the whole $100,000 to those hit by the 1995 Kobe earthquake (or, by other accounts, to its orphans).

    The clustered buildings of Rokko near Kobe come through the Great Hanshin earthquake of 1995 undamaged, a noteworthy engineering achievement of Ando’s, specific to the site.
