About the sculpture
Firearms were used by 19th century Congo hunters and warriors but were relatively rare. These smooth bore muskets were muzzle-loaders which were charged with loose powder and ball. Accessories such as this gun powder flask were specially decorated to reflect the power and importance of the men who carried them.
