As the Germans invaded France Miró narrowly fled to Spain, by then controlled by Franco, and stayed there for the whole of the Vichy regime.

Sculpture and ceramics: the partnership with Joan Gardy Artigas
From 1944 Miró took up sculpture and ceramics; in ceramics he collaborated with the ceramist Joan Gardy Artigas.
