Christus valt uitgeput op de grond als hij met het kruis onderweg is van het huis van Pilatus naar Golgotha. Een soldaat spoort hem aan om weer op te staan. Simon van Cyrene pakt het kruis vast. Pilatus zit op een paard links achter een groep soldaten. Op de achtergrond rechts wordt Maria ondersteund.
