Sul dipinto

Lo specchio è un dipinto a olio su cartone (100x81 cm) realizzato nel 1915 dal pittore Marc Chagall.

È conservato nel Museo di Stato Russo di San Pietroburgo.

Raffigura uno specchio che riflette una lampada a olio, mentre una piccola figura femminile è china con il capo sul tavolo e gli occhi chiusi.

Осенью 1914 года Шагал с молодой женой Бэллой переезжает из Витебска в Петроград, который продолжает оставаться художественной и интеллектуальной столицей России. Шагал участвует в выставках, много общается с элитой Петрограда. Картина "Зеркало" — поэтическая метафора жизни, ситуации, в которой в это время оказались Бэлла и он, Марк Шагал. Крошечная фигурка спящей женщины, Александрийская колонна, отраженная в зеркале, — символы реальности (Петроград) и мечты. Фантастическое и бытовое здесь, как и в других произведениях Шагала, смешаны и рождают таинственный, поэтический образ мира, в котором живет художник.
