На коричневой поверхности стола лежат зеленые листья, посредине - шесть яблок, справа темно - красное яблоко, левее - зеленое, рядом два яблока - красных сверху и зеленых снизу, за ними - зеленое яблоко, из-за которого видно красное яблоко. На фоне темной стены. В левом нижнем углу подпись: В. Сѣровъ.

Cholera drives the family to Moscow: lessons with Repin
Because of a cholera epidemic in Kharkov province his mother left with the children for Moscow; in the autumn of 1878 Serov resumed his lessons with Repin, who lived in Khamovniki, and was placed in the third class of the first Moscow pro-gymnasium.

Meets Olga Trubnikova
In the autumn of 1879, living with Repin in St. Petersburg, Serov met his future wife Olga (“Lyolya”) Trubnikova, who since the death of her mother at the age of ten had been brought up in the family of her aunt, the educator Adelaida Simonovich.

Through the Crimea and Ukraine with Repin
In early summer 1880 Serov travelled with Repin through the Crimea and Ukraine, visiting places associated with the Zaporozhian Sich.

The Academy of Arts: from auditor to full student
In 1880 Serov entered the Academy of Arts as an auditor while also attending Chistyakov’s private studio; in August 1882, after exams, he was moved up to full student status directly into the third year. From the autumn he went to Repin’s watercolour classes, where some six young artists, Vrubel among them, met on Sunday mornings.
