Nella vita di Charles François Daubigny
Tutta la vita1843
Settles in Barbizon to work from nature
Daubigny initially painted in a more traditional style, but this changed after 1843, when he settled in Barbizon to work outdoors, directly from nature.
1852
Meets Camille Corot at Optevoz
In 1852, at Optevoz in the Isère, Daubigny met Camille Corot, an encounter even more important to him than his move to Barbizon. Corot became his friend: they later experimented with printmaking together and sat side by side on the Salon jury.
November 1857
First voyage of the studio boat “Botin”
In 1857 Daubigny bought a boat and fitted it out as a floating studio, making his first excursion in November. As “captain” of the Botin he painted along the Seine and the Oise, often around Auvers; the practice so inspired Claude Monet that he built a studio boat of his own.
1866
First seat on the Paris Salon jury
In 1866 Daubigny joined the jury of the Paris Salon for the first time, alongside his friend Camille Corot. Together with Courbet they relished the scandalous success of Courbet's “Woman with a Parrot”.
1868
Helps Monet and Renoir into the Salon
It was Daubigny who helped young artists, among them Claude Monet and Auguste Renoir, to show their work at the Salon of 1868: his own art had much in common with the younger generation.
