About the sculpture
This ivory statuette of the Virgin and Child was veryum likely made in France in ca. 1600-10, perhaps by a follower of Germain Pilon (active 1540; d. 1590). This beautiful figure belongs to a period during which ivory carvings are exceedingly scarce.
