Con le parole del museo — in olandese

Op het toneel rent Apollo achter de vluchtende Daphne aan, wiens handen al veranderen in lauriertakken. Links van de toneelvloer staat Melpomene, de muze van het treurspel. Rechts staat Thalia, de muze van het blijspel. Op de voorgrond links slaat de filosoof Heraclitus zijn hand voor zijn gezicht, rechts lacht en wijst de filosoof Democritus. Tussen hen de lier, het attribuut van Apollo.
